I have made absolutely little to no progress on several of my endeavours, BUT, ended up making amazing progress on two. Chess and Trading. But this post isn’t about those two things.
I love reading. I always have. And reading non-fiction has been the best decision I’ve made in my life. There are so many perspectives and ideas out there that help not just in the day to day, but for the broader picture.
I recently started reading, “Courage is Calling” by Ryan Holiday. And I probably finished one-third of it, and then stopped. This book was supposed to be completed two months ago. So the reality of the situation is, I just didn’t put in the effort to actually read it. I can easily make the excuse that I didn’t have time, but despite daily reminders, I chose to do other things.
This reminds me of a particular story from his previous book, “Ego Is The Enemy”, where he talks about how we know the work is done when we can actually trace back the effort we put in. Such as when a carpenter goes to work and you can see the wood shavings on the floor.
Also, I lost today’s chess game, so clearly, I have a lot of work to get done. And this loss was a wake-up call, not just for my chess, but for putting in effort overall, which I take immense pride in about myself, and am really annoyed with myself that I haven’t been embodying what I preach.
So, starting today, going to get back to reading regularly, along with my other endeavours. Most likely, I will fail at this again. But that’s the fun part, I’ll get further, fail, learn, and then try again!
